Low Retaining Wall Products

Written by AB Retaining Walls on February 15th, 2009

Q:
Can courtyard be used as a low retaining wall?

A:

Courtyard was designed to be a free-standing, above ground wall and post system, not to retain soil. We do not recommend Courtyard for this application. Other Allan Block products like AB Jumbo Junior and Jumbo Junior Lite may be better suited for such an application.

The unit weight of the gravel inside the block is typically around 120 lbs/cubic foot. You can find a detailed description of how to use this information to calculate the effective unit weight of the wall facing in the Allan Block Engineering Manual(http://www.allanblock.com/RetainingWalls/Literature/engmanual.pdf). This particular information can be found on page 7. The Allan Block Engineering Team (http://www.allanblock.com/EngAssistance/EngAssistance.aspx?ta=4&product=rt) is also available for engineering support and can be reached by calling 800-899-5309 Ext. 3.

What is the weight of the block with the infill? The weight of the block (AB Classic) of 75 lbs does not work in my computation for gravity wall. Need to know what the volume of infill is per block or weight of the block assuming gravel infill.
